Bio: I am a doctoral student in special education at the University of Kansas. While I was studying in the deaf education program at KU and giving after-school care for a student with a severe disability, I became aware of the importance of family support and family-professional collaborations. Under the lead of Dr. Ann Turnbull, I have participated in creating Knowledge-to-Action Guides focusing on IEP meeting preparation for Korean-American families of children with disabilities.

Education:

M.S. in Special Education, University of Kansas (2008)

TESOL Certificate Program, Sookmyung Women’s University, Seoul, Korea (2004)

B.S. in Economics, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, Korea (2003)

Interests:

I have broad interests in partnerships between professionals including school teachers and families raising children with disabilities and in the families’ quality of life. In particular, partnerships and quality of life of families from multicultural backgrounds and raising children with disabilities in America have caught my attention. In addition, based on my background in TESOL and deaf education, I am interested in studying how to motivate English language literacy among individuals with hearing loss as well as English language learners.
